Please help I have a hotmail account which is downloaded into my e-mail program Outlook Express 5, however sometimes when attempting to receive messages into this acccount I get the following error message:

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Forbidden', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC33

Anyone got any ideas. Thank you.

keep in mind that hotmail support in OE5 is considered to be BETA....that's in testing and not a final product

A lot of people have had a problem logging onto Hotmail using Outlook Express. The first thing to do is go to control panel then internet options then security then custom defaults. Make sure Activex is enabled and under the last category "use authentication" enable "prompt for user name and password" Then in Internet Explorer go to tools then preferences then under advanced then security check ssl 2.0, ssl 3.0 and tls 1.0 is checked. Then in hotmail account under connection if using a dialup check always use this account (ie. earthlink) and under settings for that connection and server type only tcp/ip should be checked under allowed network protocols. The internet provider can give them the tcp/ip settings. If using dialup in connection first your provider needs to be listed then clik on it and choose always connect using my default connection. Also click on Lan settings and check automatically detect settings for both DSL and dialup. If using dsl then under connection "always connect to local area network" should be checked, and in internet explorer inder internet options then connections "never dial a connection" should be checked (for dls). I signed on as existing user and the connection I use is the one provided in the connection wizard. Some people tried using a different address and were still having problems. It was not a server problem as I thought but the prompt for user name and password got me into hotmail and allowed me to download the folders. Then the rest of the settings described above finally gave me no more error messages.

I was getting "not able to poll, configuration, forbidden, authorization required, method not allowed, Error Number: 0x80004005 and all kinds of nutty messages.

If using zone alarm I have allowed internet explorer to act as a server. I don't know if this makes a difference or not.

If this doesn't work, probably a setting is wrong somewhere. Email me if you still need help.
