unable to change display settings

I have recently acquired a second hand Compaq Deskpro EN6350 which has a RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2x video card. I have installed Windows 98. The monitor display is set at 640 by 480 and 16 colours. If I try to change the display settings after applying the changes the machine reboots but the display settings revert to the original 640 by 480 and 16 colours. I do not seem to be able to get any other display setting. I have tried two different monitors so it isn't a monitor problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

I you can find the drivers for the video card I would reinstall them. If you don't have them, go the their internet site and download them. That might help!

I know that u said that you tried 2 different moniters but if you are using the wrong moniter INF file that could possibly be your problem. Anyways it is worth a look.

Hi this is just an idea on the settings page if you go into Advance there are 3 options that you can choose from I'm assuming it is set to "Restart computer before applying new colors" maybe if you change your settings you can work it out hope so.

Thanks for all the responses - re-installing the drivers from the ati support website did the trick - thanks again for your help.
