ok, one, im having a lot of trouble completing windows 98 scandisk and defragging my system. they will both complete partway and then restart. i have shut down everything except for explorer and systray, and it doesnt seem to help at all. 2, whenever i start up my computer, mIRC comes up twice, one window on top of the other. i have deleted every trace of this program from my computer, and yet it still comes up twice on startup. i delete any value in the registry that has anything to do with mIRC, and when i restart, the values re-create themselves... this isnt too serious of a problem, its just rather annoying... any help to either of these problems will be much appreciated. thanks in advance!!!

thanks for the help, but all that happens is that it starts to defrag on startup....still, nothing happens... it will sit there without making progress, and then everything will come up as normal and mess up disk defrag... thanks anyway

Look in the WIN.INI file, the RUN=, and LOAD= lines for your mIRC. Al

Go to start then run and type in msconfig.Click on the startup tab and uncheck the mIRC box.

Try running scandisk and defrag from safemode. Also when you say you are shutting down everything, have you thought about your anti virus and screensavers??

ok, i fixed the mIRC problem, thanks for that but im still having trouble with scandisk and defragging... EVERYTHING is shut down, screensaver, virus protection, everything.. when i go into safe mode, i get the same results that i do when i attempt it normally it will get up to 10% or so, and restart are there some programs i might be missing to shut down? thanks for the help
