my mom got this computer from somebodys old work place. she wanted me to take the burner out of her old computer and put it into this new computer, so i did that. now there's two cd roms in here, and they're on the same drive letter ( D: ). when you go into my computer, right click the cd drive and select 'Eject' they both open, and there is only one cd drive in the device manager. I dont have a windows cd or any disks or drivers or no idea how to make them onto seperate drives.

any help would be appreciated.

Very likely you need to set the 'new' CD's jumpers correctly - master or slave, depending on how you've connected it.

Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

With your fingers?

Here's a photo

Assuming the new drive is on its own cable (on the secondary controller) you would set its jumper to 'master'

If it turns out everything is connected and jumpered correctly, open config.sys by running SYSEDIT or MSCONFIG and removing a LASTDRIVE line, if it exists.

Open CDROM in device manager, open 'settings' and try changing one of their drive letters.

If they're on the same cable the jumper should be MASTER on one and SLAVE on the other, unless you use CABLE SELECT. Then they should both be at cable select. I assume the changes you made reflected that philosophy?
