I gave my mother my old computer for christmas. Works fine, but I took off all the old programs and files so that she would have more space. I took it to Best Buy to do that and the re booted it with XP. However, now I do not have WORD or Excel or anything on my programs. I decided to uninstall xp and re in stall 98. I am now trying to re-install 98 and when I put the disk in the cd rom drive it comes up with an error message reading "The CD rom is an older version of Windows than the one you arepresently using. Disk Set up is disabled." can anyone tell me why I am getting this when i have taken off the XP and when I go to Add/Remove programs I do not see it listed at all either. When i checked on my "operating system" statistics it shows 98 second edition. Does this make a difference and how can I get my computer wiped of this so I can re-install 98???
Help!! I am going crazy with out Word/excel, etc..
Thanks,:)
Jennifer

Word and Excel do not come with Windows 98 SE it's software you have to buy separately so I don't think re-installing '98 will help.

You need the Microsoft Office CD. Have you got that one?

hi
First thing you need to know is that you cant go back to win 98se after upgradeing to xp. If you do the computer may not work right. I would stay with xp if you have a full copy do a format and reinstall. xp works alot better than 98 or me.

Next why go out and spend money on ms office when you can go to openoffice.org and get programs just like it for free. If you have dial up it means a night of downloading but it works just like ms office.

So do I understand correctly that you have two CD's? If so, just insert the Office CD and load Word and Excel from that.

no, I only have one cd. It says Microsoft Windows 98 on it (and it says for the recovery of Microsoft Plus) and I have the key code and everything for it. Will this help me?? I don't remember having another cd.

No, it won't help with the Word and Excel issue as Word and Excel are not on the original disks.
