Hi everyone, for months now I have been trying to get my HP 1315 all in one scanner to work, the printer & copier both work but not the scanner, I have been on the phone to HP about 20 times. First I had to put a new & bigger hard drive in and another 64 ram, ( only had 64ram) I have uninstalled at lest 50 times, I got a fix from Microsoft, but nothing works. Before i got the fix, or a regfix HP told me to do, my Hp director would open with all the icons in it, now it will not open it tells me,
" An error has occurred in the script on this page..
Line: 314.
char: 7.
error:object requred. code: 0.
URL: file://C\Program File\HP\Digital Imaging\bbfe\directo3.htm.Do you want to contine running scripts on this page. Yes.. No..
It make no difference if I hit Y or N. it will pop up another one, saying the same except.
"Line: 39
Char: 2.
Error: doesn't support this property or method.
Now HP are telling me I have to reconfigure, reformate, update to xp, or relaod 98, I have a 98se disc but no code,it would do a fix though, but when I try loading it, it tells me I don't have enough conventional memory to check my computers hard disc. Please has anyone got any ideas ? if I have to reformate or reconfigure, How do I do that without loosing anything.? Also I only have pentium 2.
Please don't tell me to just buy a new PC, as if I had the money I would, but thats a dream that will never happen..
Thanx for reading.

I'm confused, how can the copier work if the scanner isn't?
Have you gone through the manual a few times?Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Good question ham. Maybe the poster is referring to an OCR program.
Here is a link to the Win98 drivers for that scanner. Download and then uninstall the software and scanner, reboot and install the new drivers.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=374568&lang=en&os=20

Thank-you both.
Ham I've been through the manual at least once a week for months, so I have no idea why, but either on the PC or the 3 in 0ne unit I can hit copy and it will give me a photo copy of what ever I have under its lid, but if I hit scan nothing happens any more, it used to come up " can not comunicate with scanning device", but now with these new errors nothing happens.
OtheHill, thank you I have downloaded them I do have them on disc, but will try once again, as my disc has been in & out so much it may be getting warn out..LOL..Sorry I am a dummy but have no idea what the OCR program is.
I'll let you know if it works thankNana with a problem

I had a similar problem. lt, I'm running XP though, but if you want me to email you the steps HP sent me to fix this, I will. Just let me know.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Optical Character Recognition. I have had similiar exeriences with this type of hardware and software. In my experience the solution is to totally clean out ALL remenants of the exixting drivers and software. This may be part of what Jennifer has. I suggest you try her solution first. If you aren't successful I can suggest how to clean the remenants out.

Hi, Copy programs only use the scanner software that was loaded when the scanner was installed so it sounds like the scanner is OK. Some copiers may select the scanner for you. Others may not. Check and see if the scanner is selected. Use ACQUIRE and or Select device from any graphics program.
Good Luck, Jim

Thanx everyone.sorry it took all night to download, uninstall and install again.
First OtheHill, I downloaded and installed everything they had , still no go line error.I thought I was cleaning the remenants out but could easily be missing some,so please.
Jennifer, Hp did send me some steps but they didn't work, but am willing to try the ones you have thank-you.
Jim when I do that it is listed but tells me it can not communicate with hp scannig soft ware, which is the message I was getting the first times I installed it, the only thing it did through up another one the 3rd time I tryed , that was a "line error in line 21 char 2." thats a new one.
Thanx

Nana, well not mine but :-)
Don't know what you've been advised to do, or not do. So, I'll throw a couple of things your way, ok. Did they have you update your windows installer, to the latest?? Also, the script. (will give links, later) Which NET Framework, do you have installed?? (Add\Remove Programs) At least 1.1, I'd assume. Also, did any udates for it, the NET Fra..1.1 What, how are you uninstalling stuff?? Did they give you instuctions, like this? Or was there something more involved? Just curious, about that. Have you updated the drivers, for your USB controller?? Right now, you have NO use of this device, at all. Is that correct, or not?? Thanks
The links I said about, and done before install. Just an idea :-)
Script 5.6.0.8831, Download PageWindows Installer 2.0, Download Page
Good Luck,
CrazyOne

Thanx CazyOne.
Yes I have undated Windows Insaller 2.0,
I have not been give the scipt before, but have it now thank.
I don't know what NET Framework I have but have just downloaded NET Fra. 1.1.
They have had me uninstall. Via, add/remove, the Disc, the uninstall progame that comes with it, and by going into the files and using different uninstall,exe... BUT I have not been told to do any of them in the order that link states, so I'll give it onother try.
At the moment I can use the printer & the copier, but the scanner will not work and the HP Director will not open.
Thanx again will let u no if it worksNana with a problem

Download and use JVPowertools1.6. This is the last freeware version of this excellent registry cleaner. It should find more reminents. Read the instructions and when you first start running the program, there will be a list of entries that you can manually edit. Look for anything related to the scanner there and remove. Then run the cleaner and use special select - entries that should be safe to remove. They will be marked in green. Try that and post back. Of course be sure there anre no entries in the add/remove programs in Windows.

OtheHill, I did that it said I had over 1000 things wrong it fixed 88, now I got more problems, the only thing working is the internet, I can't even get jv to open to use the backup it did.
Nana with a problem

WOW, Over 1000 entries. You just set a new record. You don't have suffiecent memory to handle that many so it locks up the program. First we need to get you back into Windows. You can do a registry rollback. Here is how:
Reboot and hit F8 while booting. Select command prompt. Type command\scanreg/restore and hit enter. Highlight a date that is prior to the problem. Hit enter and you should be in business.
Try leaving a space after the word Scanreg. If you are at a pure command prompt the entire string should look like this:
C:
C:cd\windows
c:\windows
C:\windows\command
C:\windows\command\scanreg/restore
When getting the command prompt from the boot choices you are already in the C: drive, so it's not necessary to change drive letters.
After you are back up and running use JV again and What you need to do is manually check off about 30 at a time and just use the delete key on the keyboard until all the green are deleted.

ltbatch,
First, you could of gone to (Add/Remove Programs), to see which NET Framework you had. Could of even tried a repair, of it. That's if you have..... should as it was most likely installed by the HP install (CD&NET fol..ect).
You might be, a little disconcerted right now. But, hold in there, things will, should get better.
"First I had to put a new & bigger hard drive in and another 64 ram, ( only had 64ram)"
Could you tell us, exactly, how that was done. Did you do this, or someone else, thanks. just wondering about updates&drivers...
..."I got a fix from Microsoft, but nothing works. Before i got the fix, or a regfix HP told me to do,"...
What was the 'fix', from microsoft?? |Thanks| What was the 'regfix', HP told you to do?? |Thanks| Which version of IE (internet explorer) do you have on this computer?? |Thanks| Which model&number, is this compaq?? |Thanks|
Good Luck, and You're Welcome,
CrazyOne

When using JV did you delete anything not green? I have never had a problem with it. I still suggest you cleanup the registry doing 25/30 at a time of the green entries. I don't know what happened to your internet connection but it sounds like a software issue. I suspect because you have over 1000 reminents in the registry, you may have manually deleted some programs. The reason for eliminating these reminents is that when attempting to install programs a file with the same name may exist and therefore a new file may not replace it. Many programs won't work properly, is at all, when files from different versions are mixed. ATI comes to mind. Sorry for not forwarning you about trying to delete too many entries at once. Normally if a program was removed properly there may be up to 20 or so reminents. When you uninstall you are asked if you want to remove something and because you don't know if it is needed or not you say no. Those are the reminents.

Othehill, I didn't loose my Broardband till after I did them at about 20 to 30 at a time.I had a lot of trouble getting it in the first place I had to have a tech come out for it as I'm over 7kl from an exchange they said I would never get it but i had no probs till now. When I restored my PC said I had a clean registery with no probs and I ran JV again it said I had High 1091, Med 91. low 2 and Lowest 43, and they were all safe to remove so I did them as you said now JV says I have 100%, But even though I didn't see it there must of been a file for my broardband.Everything eles is OK. I think.
Now I know why I hated dialup..LOL..ssssooo slow but it's better than nothing. And it hasn't worked since they did the BB. It seems I fix one and break another..Nana with a problem

Try this: Go Start> Settings> Control Panel> Internet options> Connections> Setup> Then follow the prompts.

OtheHill, sorry I did type you yesterday but must of missed somthing cause it's not here.
That didn't work but you can stop worring about it cause I go on to telstra who would not help me cause I'm only on 98,I got angree and almost wreaked the disc but after a dozen or so tries I got it, yippy.
I tried loading my scanner one more time but am still getting the script error.
Thanx for sticking with me
Nana with a problem

OtheHill no the scanner has never worked for me and I have a cdrw, just another thing this granny got took for when I got the PC I asked for a drw and never thought they wouldn't put a dvdrw in.
Nana with a problem

Then you have your broadband connection working again? There are some files used by Windows that can cause the problems you have with the scanner. They are called ASPI layer drivers. Some burning software can install different versions and cause other things to malfunction. Take a look here for some instructions on checking your ASPI layer files. Copy and paste this address into your address box.

OK OtheHill done that it's suposed to be right now so I tried once more now I'm getting another error message, this one is suposed to be 1 HP can answer so will have to find time through the day to ring them again...I'm begining to wish I never got a scanner.ty.
