Have you tried prising it open with a small screwdriver? The word.exe file has a panel at the back into which a small enough screwdriver can be inserted; take care not to push it in too far as you may accidentally bend a couple of dll's in the process. When the panel looks like it is about to bend, just give it a sharp flick of the wrist and word should then open. Don't forget to push back the panel once the application has opened, otherwise all the little letters that you type will come spilling out of the back and onto the desktop. I hope this helps you.

The problem is fixed by obtaining a clean copy of the file: wwintl32.dll.... Uninstalling and re-installing will NOT do it for ya... Just copy a known working file and transplant it to the corrupted machine.

I'm running Windows95 using office97 and experienced the same problem after updating to service pack 2. On other pc's, this was not a problem. To remedy the problem, I simply copied the wwintl32.dll from the office 97 cd to office on the hard drive and over wrote the existing one. All was fine after that.
