Working on friends "emachine" with Windows XP. Thing was loaded with many viruses. I installed AVG 7.0.298 and removed all but "Trojan Downloader Stubby D." I have tried everything that I know( might not be too much) with negative results. Also tried several suggestions from Google and cannot elliminate the virus.
Any and all help would be appeciated.

The Colonel, Did you turn off System Restore then reboot the computer then try running a virus scan in SAFE mode. If it comes up clean turn on System Restore again.

In addition to Tufenuf's advice, download & run a trojan remover. This one works well:

There's no system restore in W98SE.

Here's another freebie trojan fixer/finder in case you need it:

Derek, The Colonel stated that:
"Working on friends "emachine" with Windows XP". That's why I suggested turning off System Restore.

Happy New Year,

Aha, I should have known better Tufenuf. It would be a rare moment to catch you off guard.

Put it down to too much New Year lubrication (ruins my eyesight) plus a kinda assumption that it would be 9x on here.

I guess you googled into this post.

Best to start a new post by chosing Security & Virus forum top left (where this one should really have been).

That way you will get attention to just your own particular problem and from the most appropriate forum.

This post (on the W95/98 forum) is probably getting down the page by now and may not get much more attention.

Make sure you indicate your operating system when posting and list out what cleaners you have tried.
