I cannot seem to remove this virus from my computer. I run AVG for windows and I constantly get a pop up saying the Trojan horse downloader was detected, but it cannot delete it or quarantine it. NAV2003 does not even detect the virus. I try to use the directory that AVG gives me to locate this virus, but it doesn't seem to exist. I'm at my wits end. Could someone please help me here? I'm ready to just wipe and reload my OS.

Jaimie< The virus is probably located in your volume information folder which stores the System Restore files. Turn off System Restore, restart your computer then run a virus scan and it should come up clean. Turn System Restore on again after doing this. AV Programs can't remove viruses from your System Restore files as they are protected files. Doing the above will purge all the System Restore file including any that sre infected with a virus. Here's a link with instructions.

Easier is to download this wonderful freeware for one month but updated called Trojan Remover, which will help you to find the both betrayal made by a trojan: first into your memory, second somewhere hidden in your hard drive. TR has two specifics scan to resolve and eradicate trojans. Read carefully the help notice, in order to use it efficiently:

I went through the procedure and it actually worked well, although now the icon of the System Restore is gone (in its place there is a dummy icon) and when I click on it to run the restore it does not do a thing - can anybody please help me and tell me how I can restore the system restore? Thanks in advance.

As you had turned off the System Restore, by going to System Restore tab in the My Computers Property, and turning it off. Again go to the Properties menu by right clicking on My Computer and clicking on properties. Then go to System Restore tab, and turn the thing on(by unchecking the "Turn off System Restore"), then go to the "Disk Space Usage", and select the desired setting. (Around 500MB-1GB)

I have tried the above suggestions and they have not worked. If I purchase McAfee or Norton Antivirus will this get rid of this problem?
thank you.

I downloaded the trojan remover, suggested by "IMP" and it said i had no infected systems.... before i downloaded it i emptied my TEMP folder, i dont know if that helped... i did also first try to turned off system restore and try that way, sugested by "tufenuf"but that didnt seem to work... AVG still says that i have the trojans so i dont really know what else to do other than restore OS. Has anyone else got any suggestions to get rid of them. I am using Windows ME (if that helps).
