after surfing the net today (dial up)i did a virus check and found i had picked up a trojan 8.u dialer. i believe i have successfully removed it.my question is i was connected to my isp for 3 hours, which i checked before i disconnected the dialog box said i was connected to my isp(blueyonder)for this dialer to have caused any damage would it have had to disconnect me first or could it have done its worst while i was still connected or would it only work if i disconnected then reconnected to my isp.

A Trojan can affect your system at any time. However, their usual job consists of sending and receiving data over the internet.

jon if your from uk (your email address is) phone 0800 800 800 you can get an up to date balance check for your phone bill from the automated options.if it is very high with a premium number you should lodge a complaint with an organisation called icstis(find them on line)if the charge is found to be proved they have the power to remove it from your phone bill, dont bank on it though because they recieve hundereds of complaints every day. also phone bt and have 09 numbers barred from your phoneline this is not 100% guarranteed but will stop a lot of diallers

Normally a porndialer must have the modem line clear to dial out, so I wouldn't worry much about it. I solved the problem by permitting no long distance on my pc phone line. That way even if a dialer does get in there it can't do ANY damage. And neither can hubby or son for that matter. One way to deal with it.
