Hi,

By now, I'm thinking to install Windows all over new. The thing is that it would be good if all the settings and files could be saved. Is there a way to do this in WIndows 98 SE similar to XP? If yes, how? And if not, what could be done...?

Thanks,
Larry

How long has your Win98se been running without a reinstall?

Copy your files to a CD-R. Video settings can be saved by saving your current Scheme (this results a .Theme file for some reason). Right click the desktop Properties ... Appearance tab .. Scheme Save As...
Find this .Theme file and copy it to your CD-R. I think it is at C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes.

Remember you will need your motherboard drivers CD and your product key.

'Most' of the drivers are stored in the c:\windows\inf folder. It could be backed up and restored after the install. Unfortunately, I've found that it doesn't work for all devices, printer drivers (for example) usually need to be reinstalled for some reason.

If you have any non MS drivers running, and you don't have the source files for these drivers, see my (#4) post here for a means towards saving them.

It's a good day when you learn something
