does anyone know how to link 2 computers together via modem. i mean without a dialtone, or using a modem to call another modem, i want to strickly transfer over a phone cord from one computer to another without having to dial. of anyone knows how to do this let me know
To put it simply: you can't. A modem is device specifically to allow your computer to send data over an active phone line, so is only of use when dialling another computer over a phone line. What you probably need is a direct cable connection; it's slow compared to a proper cabled network, but cheap and easy to set up. You'll need a cheap null serial cable and, if I recall, there is a wizard in Win95/98 to lead you through setting it up.
