I have a P133 with a 1G Hard drive, I've just bought a 8.4G Drive, but I want to transfer all my OS & files to the new one, is this possible? I have a lot of personal files and I really would like to transfer them.
( I know that I could use the old one for OS & New for files (then use new one for swap file) but I would really like to transfer the lot!

Thanks

The easiest way to do it is to buy a program called Disk Copy. I think it is made be vision quest or something like that. It does cost around $20.00 but it's worth it. It does integrity checks and everything so nothing is missed. Almost everyplace sells it. Walmart, and computer stores.

From a DOS WINDOW INSIDE WINDOWS 95, type the following command: XCOPY C:\*.* D:\*.* /s/c/h/e/r/k
Note: If you get a "switch not recognized" error, you're doing it wrong.

Shaun,
Do not use XCOPY!! Xcopy will copy all files, BUT drive will not boot. To get an exact copy with all files in the right place, and boot record intact, you need a program that copies by sectors not by files. Use Drive Copy.

Drive Copy is fine but has many limitations.

On the disk that came with your new hard drive is a dandy feature that transfers whole
partitions between hard drives. I have used it many, many times to copy a whole system
OS and all, even compressed hard drives!

The same product DiskManager has many names:
MaxBlast(bundled with Maxtor)
EZ-Bios(bundled with Western Digital) but the same function and windows in advanced mode.

After MaxBlast(or whatever flavor you have) has partitioned and formated your new drive, go
to Advanced Options and Choose "Copy Entire Partition".

Carefully select your source (the old setup)
and a target (the new partition).

Quicker and easier than Drive Copy in my opinion and free of numerous limitations
imposed by Drive Copy such as the newer drive has to be larger, etc. etc. etc.
