Hi all,
Recently, there is a person in icq that knows my IP address even though mine is a dynamic IP. Is there a way that I can trace that person's ip. I am not doing any bad things with the ip, but I really want to know how he/she can get my ip.

If they are connected to your computer in anyway (like direct connection with AOL Instant Messenger), they can goto a DOS prompt and see all the connections they have to their computer. hope that helps

There is also a function in ICQ that can hide your IP. I'm at work now, so I don't have access to my ICQ here. I'll try to remember to look it up and post back.

While chatting go to
Start>Programs>MS-DOS Prompt.
At C:\Windows>type netstat [Enter}
This will show you all active connections.Good Day!
Mesich

on AIM, just chatting goes through AIM server, so NETSTAT will get you AIM server, not the person's IP. might be same for ICQ. havn't used ICQ in while.

even if you have your IP "hidden" one can crack ICQ to give it to them, it is just hiding because the client was asked not to show it, not because it doesn't know it. ICQ uses this IP to connect a connection to send messages, so the server gives the client the IP of everyone online. If there is no connection (eg: noone sent the other party a message during this session) then there is no connection.

Andy,
Its possible to "unmask" IP address of ICQ users even when they are hidden, 2 programs and where you can get them is given here
http://www.astalavista.com/tools/icq/misc/icqhiddenip.zip
http://www.astalavista.com/tools/icq/misc/ICQTY2KSE.zip
hope this helps,

there are all kinds of crancks out there for ICQ that can reveal your IP address even though you ahve it hidden. ICQ is a POS and a security nightmare.

When connected to the ICQ user you want to identify
GoTo Start/Run and type command in the dialog box
An autopad dos window will appear.
hit the enter key
the command prompt will appear
Type the icq users nickname and Ping
hit the enter key
their IP address for that session will be then detailed.
