Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CDT fan won't run

Comment:
The cooling fan in my Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CDT does not run. The battery area of the case gets quite warm if I don't keep an external fan trained on it. I went into the bios adjustments and the cooling is set at the highest setting. I can get a new fan, but is there a site where I can get disassembly instructions so I can get to the fan. Or, is there someone out there who can give step by step directions on how to get the case open without breaking anything.

Laptops are a bitch to get a part. If you want to keep the laptop working you might be better off paying some one else to do it.

The fab is fed from the PSU PEC in the back LH corner of the unit. It's just a little plug/socket arrangement so it's quite easy to replace. It is a bit of a twat to get to but if you treat carefully it's not too bad. Take out the drives and the battery, and work round the front bottom edge to remove screws holding the front mouse panel on then when this is free be lead by the screws to ease up the front panel and that will get you to it. The KB os held on by a slim insert to the front of it..ease that out to free the KB...good luck!!

this is the first time i've actually been here, but i also have a sat pro 410CDT. the fan on these machines are not supposed to run all the time - only when the processor gets really hot - i have only had the fan on mine go a couple of times, and that is when the laptop has been on for about 3 hours. If you really are worried about it, test the fan - that is what i did - i thought it was supposed to be on all the time, but a closer look at an identical motherboard shows a temp sensor under the processor - after pulling my laptop apart, i found 1 - so i unplugged the fan and put 3V through it, just to make sure it works, and it did. To test it, take off the skirting at the front of the keyboard, lift the keyboard out and disonnect the fan plug (right in the back left corner by the processor) run 3v thru it and if the fans goes, chances are you have nothing to worry about. if u still are worried, see if there is any info on the toshiba website.

The fan isn't supposed to run all the time, but I usually have it go all the time because a laptop only is useful for a year or so anyway until it is "too slow".
