Hello all you computing wizards out there. How can I get my Toshiba Laptop to stop going on standby.I have adjusted the windows settings for the monitor to stay on but it doesn't respond and keeps going on standby (black screen ) every two minutes or so. This is preventing defrag from completing. Do I have to adjust this from the DOS prompt? Thanks E Surette

Acutally go to the control panel then the power options. There you can adjust when you get a blank screen and how long before it goes to standby.

I don't think you can completely disable power management in a Toshiba laptop. There is a BIOS setting that gives a little control, but it still will go into power saving mode. Also, make sure that what you're seeing isnt a Black Screen screen saver that activates after 2 minutes of inactivity. I hate and despise screen savers anyway, but be sure to check.

Hi ...Thanks for the reply. As I said in my original letter I have adjusted the Windows settings but they have no effect. All screensavers have been disabled and it still goes on standby after about a minute or two on inactivity.I am not using battery power with this laptop...its plugged into the wall. Any other suggestions welcome...Thanks

Disable power saving features through hardware setup in control panel. Also, look for bios upgrade that may address that specific problem.

i've the same problem on a 1805-s274. i'd be interested in the resolution to this problem. i used to just hit the FN-F5 key and then the standby plunger to get the screen back. however, today it took 30 minutes to get the screen back (the computer and monitor are on but the screen goes dark and you can just make out the desktop through it). i went into safe mode and saw that the screen was fine. i came out of safe mode, set the hardware acceleration down a notch and the screen is staying on, but flickering. i've set desktop and screen saver to none in the meantime to gage these settings.
