Check the system requirements for the drive. It might need WinXP.

Check the manual. Quite often you must install the drivers and then connect the device in order for it to work.
Reason being is that when Windows sees the device it then looks for drivers. If you connected the device first then it could not find the proper drivers.

My cigar drive requires start without plugged in, run the install program and plug it in during this sequence, then install runs for a while, then must unplug and finish install program then replug ... gets me dizzy just thinking about it. And none of this is documented ! Well there is some Japanese text which i can't read.

Win98 requires drivers that WinME & XP don't require. They may have come with the drive or you may have to go to the vendor's site.

I have a "JumpDrive". I also had to install drivers, then reboot computer. Then insert JumpDrive and it would then find the drivers needed. I had to download them from their website as they didn't come with device, as Renaissance Man mentions. On same note, very correct in XP don't need the drivers for JumpDrive, but must have running 98.
