When I boot my Thinkpad, all I get is memory check and then error 00174 which is a hard drive error. I am unable to run scandisk on it as it wont pass the initial hard drive error. When I boot from floppy or cd rom it will not do so unless the hard drive is disconnected and then when i reconnect hard drive to do the scandisk it says no fixed disc detected. If I reboot with h/drive connected-- end up at the initial error again. Is there any way around this problem.--Dick

A 00174 either denotes a bad harddrive or a bad controller on the system board. I would try the drive first, as it is the most likely problem...
