My laptop displayed a message 163 and 173. I know it's got to do with System date and Time. According to instructions to press and hold down the F1 key then boot up, still I couldn't get in to the cmos setup utility. Is there any other way to solve this problem? Please Help me.

I have a 600X---on the later models,

START WITH THE MACHINE OFF

HOLD and CONTINUE TO HOLD "F1"

WHILE STILL HOLDING "F1" TURN ON THE MACHINE

AND

CONTINUE TO HOLD "F1"

I'll guarantee you, that it will go into bios, you'll get a green and white screen.

You may have a dead or dying bios battery. go to www.ibm.com, find and download the user manual AND the "hardware maintenance manual."

Thank you for your replies. I tried to follow your advices but still I end up in the display that numeric error codes and pointing to the instructional manual. Then nothing happens, as if the system halts.

Change the battery as directed and try again.

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
