CPU/Ram: ~
Model/Manufacturer: ibm thinkpad 600
Comment:
Hi, i recently recived a thinkpad 600 laptop from a relitive who was moving. However it does not boot. the only text shown when booting is:

064906 kb ok
3a 301
error 00301

then a thinkpad back ground with a blue error box appears with ERROR 00301. This error is a keypad error however the key pad is working well. there is the option to either test or restart. the test just freezes.

when i choose restart, scandisk loads, then a win 98 login screen with a screename. i click cancle and win 98 loading noise is made, however i then get an error sayig that the exploer does not work :(

i have tried, booting up win 98 from cd (as there is no floppy drive), holding f1 and other keys to get safe mode etc, when on the 98 screen, if i plug in a usb device it recognises this but does not recognise any drivers i try to install through cd.

Can anyone help me? or tell me how to restore the factory settings?

thank you so much for reading my long post. Walkingtwig

Have you tried with an external keyboard ?

The error 303 refers to the actual Keyboard Controller Chip, I believe.

Erro 301 stated from a run down manual of all IBM models states keyboard error. So do as santa says try pluggin in an external PS/2 keyboard or opening up the laptop and checking the connectiosn (advacned method) then using a normal keyboard if found damged. The test just freezing is normal according to the manual as it is a full system test of the ram and everything, at a painstakingly slow rate.

Just change your keyboard to an external and you should be fine.

The PS/2 port can handle either a mouse or keyboard, have you been to the Lenovo website as it includes lots of info including this:

Here's the "start" page for Thinkpad support, note that there are several different "600" series, including 600, 600E, and 600X.

The 600 page

Select "User's guides and manuals" and download the "hardware maintenance manual."

Also download AND READ the user's manual, which has somewhat of a troubleshooting chart in the back.
