Hi
I was wondering if you could help me change the initial picture of windows 98 on start-up. Is there anyway to change it? If is is unable to be changed, can I disable it?

Thanks in advance,
FIREBALL

You can do both.
Tweakui will disable the startup splash screen, or you can edit or replace the 127kb logos & logow.sys files using nearly any graphics prog.Note: The .sys extension was used to trick us.
You can get Irfanview for the graphics & Tweakui @ www.surecool.com
BTW,
they're free!

1. Under View|Options Menu, select 'show all files'
2. Open MSDOSS.SYS into Wordpad and add the line LOGO=0 to the [options] submenu.

Kambialoga is a powerful tool for changing Windows to your own choice of logo. The software is very simple to use and is presented in a tabbed interface with each tab representing a different logo. There are configurable options to boot at start up and online help to get you started if you get stuck. This tool is freeware and can be found at: http://softseek.zdnet.com/Desktop_Enhancements/Startup_and_Shutdown_Screens/Review_51957_index.html

In Win98 the start up screen has been embedded into the win.com, but you can still replace the start up logo with one of your own designs. Create your design as a 256 colour, 320 x 400 res. bitmap and save it as logo.sys in your c:/ drive root folder. Windows will then use this file in place of the built in one next time it starts up.

do the same with logow and logos . c: windows
Or what you can do , back them up in another folder anywhere first .
Then rename logow.sys logow.bmp , oper it with any drawing programm , redraw or modify what you want on it , save it as the same name ( logow.sys) rename it logow.sys. Reboot the whole thing and see your changes.

http://www.nucleus.com/~kmcmurdo/logos/ this link is a great place to get a cool animated logo or the software to create your own.
http://xrx.simplenet.com/logoutils/download_sites.htm this link lets you download a program called 'add bar' which lets you import any image you choose. it adjusts the image to the correct file size and format and allos you to add and edit the colors of the animated bar thats in windows startup logo. after creating the logo of your dreams you can then automatically install it without worrying about command lines or saving it as. not only does it do all this but it also automatically saves your original logos incase you one day decide to change them back! burzurq@hotmail.com if you have any questions
