Hey,
I have 2 pcs im trying to network and the "missing" msnp32 is what i believe is holding me back. I have, however, copied Msnp32.dll into about 20 folders on the comp with the error, including windows, windows/system, and windows/system32. What's up? Please... and thanks in advance :)

Hey? I like that. What's up is you probably got a mess now. You didn't say how you set up your network, what hardware you have, protocols used, operating system, etc. Go at it again with some details, hey.

found where I was going wrong - removed client for ms network ok but had to REBOOT before adding it back in. by not rebooting the system didn't register that the client files needed removing (and hence a full re-install was required after the reboot). suspect that error message is due to other files which are dependent on msnp32.dll, rather than msnp32 itself (would explain why message doesn't go away when only msnp32.dll is restored - just a theory).

OK, I got it to go away by unintalling the
Client for Microsoft Networks, REBOOTING,
then reinstalling the Client. I had to show the machine (D:/Win98), to get it to reinstall, but once it did, I got no more error messages. I rebooted three more times just to make sure it was gone, and each time Windows came up without protest. Thanks for the help! Budah

I tried to register it (regsvr32 msnp32.dll), but got an error:

LoadLibrary("msnp32.dll") failed.
GetLastError returns 0x00000002.

On startup, this error message shows up, doesn't seem to create problems. However, I want to know how to get rid of this message or find out if this leads into further problems.

Nice to know that windows insanity happens ths same to many.
some tech guy installed ethernet adapter on my system and
the box suddenly asks for vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd and msnp32.dll
so removing the client and reinstalling it is a good idea,
i'll try it.thanx.

Yeah, I got an ethernet card on my system, got error messages wrt to the three files mentioned above (vredir, dfs, msnp32) BUT! I have a used system that already had win98 SE on it, so if I uninstall, I don't have the CD to reinstall. Think a normal first ed. win98 CD will work? I'm a novice, here...

HERE'S THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM !!!!!!!!!
go to control panel networking and remove your dial up network (DUN) then put your win98 cd in and go to add/remove programs and
reinstall it. I reinstalled everthing under communications to be sure but it was the DUN.

Hi!

I too installed a NIC only to find Windoze asking me for vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd and msnp32.dll.

After trying all the solutions I could think of (most of which it would seem that many others tried too!) I removed Dial Up Networking, rebooted and reinstalled it.

Everything is back to normal. (If you can call anything Windoze does normal!)

Now I can finally use the new computer I got! :-)

I decided to search the web to see if anyone else had come across this problem and I found this forum - what a resource the internet can be when you can find things!

Anyhoo... just reaffirming that removing and then reinstalling Dial Up Networking is the solution to this annoying Windoze bug.

Now I'm not as scared to try inserting this NIC card once more... ;P

All the best...

Conor

Hi there
I have the same Problem with the msnp32.dll,
the vredir.vxd and the dfs.vxd
for the two last ones the solution is
extracting the files from the CD and copying them to C:\windows\system\
with the msnp32.dll, i don't know a solution

Had the same problem, "missing msnp32.dll" on a pc that I just built for a ten-year-old neighbor. I was more concerned with the how the problem originated. I'm not sure if this is the cause, but I found out that the child's friend tried to install AOL from a cd. Afterwards, DUN froze up, and AOL sort of took over during WINDOWS startup.

After removing AOL, and restoring msnp32.dll, I still had the same problem. Luckily, the child only had the pc for a week, and there was really nothing crucial on the machine. I intend to completely format the drive and reinstall the OS. I'm not exactly sure what those kids did to the machine, so this is what I need to do at this point.

I was just wondering if the cause of this "missing msnp32" has anything to do with installing ISP software, (aol, etc.).

Any Ideas?
