screw all of the 9x OS's, 2K Pro and XP Pro are by far the best period, end of story. If they are configured right, they both are perfect.

...just plain old XP isn't good enough?? What you get for the large difference in cost bewteen XP and XP-Pro for us "average" users isn't worth the apparent bragging rights that come with it.

(I'll still stick with 98SE or ME)

If you are you just getting into a new system, XP is the way to go. I have it on my new computer, and it is the best! If you have an of older computer, with a lot of its software programs and games. I would recommend 98se. I had ME, and it is not one of Micrsoft's best products or ideas. It came installed on my computer and I uninstalled it and went back to 98se. I still use the old system, because of all the the old software I had and still used. If you are going to use it for business then 2000 is a very stable OS, but it is for people whho know what they are doing. Bottom line is it depends what you are going to use the OS for. It is important to consider what you currently have for software and how old it is, and if you still need to use it. All the best!

Windows 98SE very verastile. It get's my vote. Most hardware is supported by 98.
XP is fast, sleek, but is a lot $$$ and the activation crap is just pathetic. Not all my older hardware/software works with it.

What is it that you want to do with your computer??? Games! Go with 98SE, and the less programs you install the better. Of course, any system is always best with mucho RAM.
If you want security, go with NT4 or Win2K.

For me nothing is better than Win2000. Really stable, as hard as rock and robust. Its actually stabler than WinXP.
Win9X or ME are pains in the ass. When I still used it 2 years ago, no days without BSOD.

With Win2000, i have forgotten when I got BSOD the last time. I have more than 120 apps installed (and many free or sharewares and junks) in 5 gigs NTFS partition and only 700 MB free. No problem at all. W2K rocks.

For games, all new games can be flawlessly on W2k. Just install the patches.
