I am running Win98. In trying to clean up my hard drive, I used Disk Cleanup under accessories to try and delete temporary internet files. It appeared to be removing files; however, when I went to Windows/Temporary Internet Files there were 4 folders: 4imgdeui, 89216xch, Gui3edip and Ulwlang7. All of these folders, including the Temp. have exactly the same thing. When I tried to delete them, there are many that I can't. I thought you should delete these files as a part of a regular maintenance program. Any advice? Thanks, Newton

The easiest way to delete all these files, is to click Start, Programs, MS DOS Prompt. At the C:\Windows prompt, type DELTREE TEMPOR~1 , hit enter.

I have 100mb of RAM in my computer which is more than I really need. So I use a program called xmsdisk to make a RAM drive. I then set my Netscape and IE5 to place their cached files in the RAM drive.

xmsdsk.exe can create any sized RAM file and use any available drive letter. I use 36mb and drive h: for my cached files. When I turn my computer off, the files are gone!

This program was made by ZDNet in 1989. You can download it and experiment with it at:

I just add the following lines to my autoexec.bat file that way when my pc reboots it always deletes all those files:

IF EXIST C:\WINDOWS\TEMPOR~1\*.* DELTREE /Y C:\WINDOWS\TEMPOR~1\*.*

You may also want to do it for the following directories:

C:\WINDOWS\COOKIES\*.*
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*
C:\WINDOWS\HISTORY\*.*

I got my own program (.exe) which will try to open one of these 'Temporary Internet Files' and it is giving errors like:
(1) Sharing violation OR
(2) myProgram.exe contains an invalid path
(3) FILE_NOT_FOUND, etc.

Please help.
