I'm using win98 and IE5. In the Windows folder, there is a Temporary Internet Files Folder which has a sub folder called Content IE5. This folder has four sub folders. Each time I log off the internet and use the find feature in the Start Menu to check the Content IE5 four sub folders, I always find some unknown files have been downloaded into these four subfolders. I have been deleting these subfolders without any thing going wrong but the funny thing is when I surf the internet again, the subfolders will appear again in the Content IE folder. My question is:what will happen if I delete the Content IE5 folder? Incidentally, a couple of times my Norton Antivirus had found virus being installed in one of these sub folders while I was surfing the internet.

You cannot delete the Temporary Internet Folder in Windows.
You can delete it from a Dos prompt and Windows will re-create a new one.
The new will be empty will the exception of the index.dat file which will be about 32kb in size containing only the identification information.Mesich

Here is a little more information on the Temporary Internet Folder.
Windows stores a copy of the web pages that you visit in the folder.
This does several things:The page will load faster next time you visit it because it is already on your PC.
Windows will also store cookies on your PC.
It allows anyone who has access to your computer to know where you've been on the internet.
You can delete the files in the temporary folder with the exception of the index.dat file.
This is an index of all the files and can only be deleted from Dos.HTH

Further to Mesich's note...
When you delete the TIF folder from within DOS, Windows will recreate it upon restart into Windows. After I do it, I will then find a total of 12 new files and folders (5 folders, 1 index.dat and 6 desktop.ini files) and this is what I expect.
The index.dat upon recreation is always 48kb in size on my IE5.5sp2.
If you only want to delete the TIF folder then I would recommend Langa's WipeTIF bat file. It automates the process.
