I was just looking at the files/folders in the windows when I noticed large number of TEMPORARY files. These have nemes like
fffd2c8f {87EF2380-10BD-11D9-ABE2-00E050004BB6
2. What are these files??
3. I am not sure whether I ever noticed these files earlier??
4. I had, on 2 or 3 occasions created backup copies of the registry. Do these files have something to do with that??

They are generated by a program called MDM.
Run Msconfig > Startup tab and UNselect MDM.

Then delete all of these files in windows.

Yeah, welcome back WhitPhil.

But leave me a few of the easy ones.

I've been tripping over my own advice lately.

Thanks WhitPhil!!
2.I hesitatingly deleted all the files but everything went fine.
3. But if these were to be deleted why were they created in the first place??
4. Am I now required to CHECK MDM(Machine Debug Manager) or is it to remain UNCHECKED??
5. What is the function of MDM ??
6. What happens if someone doesn,t delete these files. Do they keep on accumulating??
7. Does it mean that we frequently keep on checking our C:\Windows folder??

Temporary files are generated by most programs, and the largest offender is no doubt browsers.

I usually use IE-6 on my w98 machine, and to control the buildup of unwanted temp files, I use the "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed" option in the properties menu / advanced / security list.

Of course, this does nothing to reduce temp files caused by other programs, and the best thing I can suggest is that you manually clear the Windows\Temp folder on a regular basis to keep that to a minimum.

Also, if you do a lot of downloading and program installations, you'll get a lot of temp files from that, too, so you might want to consider cleaning the folder every time you do an installation.

I don't know of a specific program that will do this for you, but one of those "window washer"-type programs may work ...

Good luck!
