Hi all. Just doing some maintainance etc and I've discovered two temp internet files folders.
One where i expected in C:\windows\temp internet files
the other i'm sure i've never seen before in
C:\windows\localsettings\application data & temp internet explorer files. This folder is full of 'offline content' cookies etc, while the C:\windows\temp internet is empty. (i emptied it)
if i try to delete C:\windows\ local settings\temp internet it tells me it is a system folder and if i delete it windows will not work properly (hahahaha, like it does anyhow). If i try to delete C:\windows\Temp internet it tells me it is a read only and i have the option to bin it.
Win 98se/I.E 6 with I.e.6 acting a little weirder than usual.
I have an WinMe OS laptop which doesn't have this 'feature' and as i say i'm sure i've not noticed it before.
Can anyone explain this to me please.
As always many thanx for your help and advice.
nick.

Hi again......
just as a p.s. to this. if i go to IE tools/options/settings, i then get the option to move the folder C:\Windows\localsettings\temp internet files, ok so far, but i then find i can move it anywhere except to the teporary internet files folder @ C:\Windows\TIF???

You had an ISP that changed your TIF file location to the local folder. I've seen it before but I forget which one does it. You shouldn't have a problem moving it back to the windows folder if that's where you want it. It wouldn't necessarily have to be in that folder or even on the same drive, if you have more than one HD. As I recall, though, it insists on being named temporary internet files. You can delete those folders in dos even if windows won't let you.

This also happens when you have different users using the PC.
EG: you have entered different names at login. You can verify this by doing a search for password files. IE: find *.pwl
If more than 1 .pwl is found, then this is why the TIF's are in C:\Windows\Local Settings\*.*
Until this feature is activated the contents of the Local Settings folder is "C:\WINDOWS\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Msimgsiz.dat"

Hi nick,
You found TIF at two locations because you upgraded your IE.
It happened with me. When I had IE5, the TIF is in Windows, but after I upgraded to IE6, it created another TIF in windows/local settings/
That is why your TIF in windows is empty after you deleted files and it did not collect any new files. I think it is Ok to delete it in whatever way you can :-)Murali
