I konw that Windows always keeps some temporary installation files on the harddrive...but where can I find them ? Those suckers can take up a lot of your disk space and I want to delete them but can't find them (have no idea though what the exact file names are so no luck with "search for file and folders")
Anyone knows where they are hiding ? Just installed photoshop on my application partition but my windows C:\ partition went down over a 100 MB in space after installation .... (and photoshop has not that many common files)

I think you will find that Photoshop uses around 100MB. Have a look in C:\Windows\Temp, this is where most programs run their installation files.
BTW, new hard drives are more affordable than ever. I just bought a 80GB drive for 79AUD (about 50USD).

Disk Cleanup in Accessories > System Tools will delete temp files. Even better is Delindex.bat

I would argue against using a 'cleanup' program. They have been known to delete the wrong files and cripple your system if used by someone who isn't really knowlegeable.

Just double click on 'my computer' and then right click on 'C' drive then right click, then left click on properties. Then click on disk clean-up....if temporary internet files has a check mark....it's safe to delete it. Just a different approach than response 2....good luck
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Correction to response #3. The Windows 'Disk Cleanup' is perfectly safe to use. But with other cleanup programs you need to be very careful.
