tcp/ip violation and icmp echo request(ping)

i have just had a warning on ie5 that someone has accesed my tcp/ip address and now my firewall is telling me that i am being pinged from 172.162.63.192 ?????? i realise that this is someones ip address what does ping do ? is it a problem and how can i avoid someone getting this info again?? any help would be appreciated

ive had seven ping requests in about 20 mins all from different ip`s my firewall says im safe because it did not respond to this request but ive never had this sort of problem before this violation thanks for you time in responding to my problem
