TCP/IP error

I've pentium celeron 400Mhz machine, I'm getting an error when i try to install TCP/IP protocol and it says you cannot install this protocol, have win95b installed. can anyone help

Does it say anything else? Just you can't do it? Do you already have it installed (just not yet binded to the adapter)? If so, remove it first, then try agian.
Also, last thing I can think of, as I've not seen this one yet, try removing all the protocols and starting fresh. See if that makes any difference.

have already done that but the problem persists. it doesn't allow me to install tcp/ip. shuts itself with an error message can't install tcp/ip. It does allow to go in to the tcp settings but when i select apply it comes with this annoying message "this program has perform an illegal operation, cannot install tcp/ip...."

Are the install files you need local or are they on a network drive? If you uninstalled TCP/IP and it was your mode of communication to the network drive, you will need a local copy of the install files.
