I had to reinstall Win98SE on my daughter's computer due to a crash. I thought I had it running OK, but I noticed that whenever I launch a new window, the only ones that appear in the taskbar are either IE or Firefox-based windows. No other windows (i.e., Windows Explorer, AIM, Control Panel, etc.) show up there.

This makes it very difficult two open a running program or switch between open windows when a window is minimized, but I can still get to them via the *alt-tab* key sequence, but that can be a pain. Also, I started the system in *Safe* mode, and all the taskbar seemed to display all the windows I opened.

Any suggestions/hints on what I should look for??

Thanks,
Bruce

Go to the following link and download #240 " Programs Aren't Minimized in the Taskbar", which will reset the taskbar when you run it.

Dang!! - we need an edit function here- after I posted realized I was in Win9x forum. You can open the referenced file with notepad and see if these entries are in the Win9x registry.

This link applies if you have Xerox's Text Bridge Instant Access OCR program.
Minimized Programs Don't Show in Taskbar

This is how to recreate the Taskbar if missing or not displayed correctly:

Also look here:

Lost your drift with this statement: "You can open the referenced file with notepad and see if these entries are in the Win9x registry"

Perhaps you can expand a bit on this.

Thx
