The system.ini loads files for Windows on startup. It's most likely that one of the files the system.ini is trying to load can't be found, If that's the case, it should give a file name, so search for that and then put it where it belongs as specified in system.ini

make the windows startup disk from the bootdisk.com and boot the computer from floppydisk and type at a:\> c: and press enter
At the c:\ prompt type CD WINDOWS and then press enter
At the c:\windows type REN SYSTEM.INI SYSTEM.OLD and press Enter
At the c:\windows type COPY SYSTEM.CB SYSTEM.INI and press Enter
Type EDIT SYSTEM.INI and press enter on the keyboard
Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate the mouse cursor to the end of the following line [boot] so the cursor is blinking to the right of the ] in [boot] and press enter on the keyboard
If the section [boot] does not exist type it in at the very beginning of the document. Type the following: [BOOT] and then press enter
In the first line under [boot] type MOUSE.DRV=MOUSE.DRV and press Enter
In the next line under [boot] type DRIVERS=MMSYSTEM.DLL and press Enter
Once we are finished with the [boot] section it should look similar to:

[boot]
mouse.drv=mouse.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll

If there is additional information under [boot] leave it.
Now look for a section titled [386enh] and use the arrows on the keyboard to scroll to the right of ] of [386enh] and press enter on the keyboard. Again if this section does not exist you need to create it by: after the last line under the [boot] section, press enter twice to create some space in the file and type [386ENH] and press Enter
Under the [386enh] section type in the following line MOUSE=*VMOUSE and press Enter
Once we are finished with the [386enh] section it should look similar to:

[386enh]
mouse=*vmouse

This completes the data entry.
To save the file press the ALT key
Then press the F key (shortcut key to activate the file menu across the top of the screen
Once F has been pressed, press the letter X (shortcut key to activate exit command from file menu)
You will get a message asking if you want to save the file the "Yes" option by default is selected. Press ENTER to save and exit the file
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on the keyboard to reboot or power unit off then back on

Yeah, it's probably a file called from system.ini and not the actual system.ini it's looking for. Sometimes it'll say the registry or system.ini.

That's usually caused by remnants left from uninstalling some software. Did you recently uninstall something?
