System slowdown - How can I reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows etc?

Comment:
Adding bits of software from magazines etc... has led to a real slowdown. Bits of my dll libraries are missing (Norton can't find them) I have some missing clusters... The hard drive is full of bits of junk.
How do I start afresh - wipe the hard drive clean, re-install windows, my grphics and sound cards, Norton, Office 2000 and the net browsers?

FDISK the drive and Format then reinstall Windows. Make a Windows start-up disk and FORMAT and FDISK will be on it along with the system files to make the drive bootable.
If you don't know the syntax for the tools re-post.

Ian,
You have several options. Since you own all that software, reloading would just be an investment of time. I would suggest a good uninstalling program for future considerations. If you're dumping everything to start freash, you may want to seriously consider backing up some of your more valuable data. Things you can't do without. The "cards" you refer to can be pretty easy to get up and running again after you reload the operating system. Consider this lesson learned about dumping every piece of software you run across...it's your computer...if you're not going to use the software...why allow it to remain resident? Just a thought. Not all software is created equal.
