That's the second longest sentence that I have ever seen. :-)
Check the CPU fan to see if it's running.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

If it's not the fan then RAM is quite likely.
If you have more than one stick of RAM try each one "on it's own" in first postion. It is rare for more than one stick of RAM to fail at a time so it should prove the point.

If you have a 115/230 voltage switch on the power supply make sure it's in the correct position--115 in most of the civilized world. If it's in the correct position the power supply itself may be bad.

Have you had your computer opened up before?
Looked inside?
You may need a complete cleaning.
http://www.computercleaningguide.co...

It's almost never a bios fault, and it would rarely have anything to do with your video. If your ram was working fine it's extremely unlikely for it to go bad unless it has been exposed to something such as a dying power supply or an AC voltage surge or spike that your computer is not protected from - however your ran contacts may be electrically dirty, even if you can't see anything on the contacts.
It's more likely to be your hard drive, power supply, or serious corruption of your Windows installation data.
Check out your hard drive.
First part of response 5:
http://www.computing.net/windows95/...Your power supply could be starting to fail.
If it is producing voltages that are out of whack, the behavior of your drives can become erratic and cause data errors and freezes.
To check out whether it is your PS that is the problem, or maybe the connections inside your case, see response 3 in this:
http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...Another thing you can try while you're inside the case is to remove the ram and clean the contacts on it/them, put them back in.
Isopropyl (rubbing) or methyl (wood) alcohol (gasline anti-freeze_work well.

Are you trying to say I'm not civilisedjust 'cos we bash 230V at our kit LOL?Agreed worth cleaning RAM edge connectors (pencil eraser good for this). Also pop them in and out a few times to clear any tarnish off the edge connectors. I have known restarts due to RAM problems.

Oh, I add that one every now and then when the sentence isn't long enough. So is the UK/Europe pretty much wired 230?

DAVE
UK Voltage used to be 240 ± 6%, now 230 + 10% -6% (to line up with Europe). In real terms it is still usually more like 240V than 230V here.
We just like to live dangerously. Less cable loss tho.
