Can anyone help please! I have recently attempted to restore my computer with my "tiny restore pack" cd and the system restore pack floppy. these both came with my computer a few years ago. all was goin well until the process hit 29% and come up with an error window saying exactly "error #1802 image file is invalid or corrupted." same thing happened twice so i gave up and tried to load the computer as normal. Now i cant even load up, all it says if i have neither of the disks in is "Boot Failure from previous device, insert boot diskette in A:"

What the hell can i do now, it wont restore or load up as normal so im stuck with a dead computer??? help..

I suggest you contact Tiny tech support. It appears that your restore files are corrupt.

When posting questions about your operating system it is helpful to know which operating system you are using. To find out simply Go> Start> Programs> Accesories> System tools> System information. The numbers after the Windows version are also important.

You could try to use scanreg/ restore from a command prompt. Try starting the computer using a boot floppy and from the A: prompt type scanreg/ restore. Then choose a good registry backup from the list that predates your problems.

Sorry, try this.
From a pure command prompt the entire string should look like this:
A:
C:
C:cd\windows
c:\windows
C:\windows\command
C:\windows\command\scanreg/restore
When getting the command prompt from the boot choices you are already in the C: drive, so it's not necessary to change drive letters.

OtheHill,

I don't think any of those suggestions will be of much use after a failed reformat.

MrG, all you can do at this point is to continue the rebuild. Inspect the restore CD, if it's dirty, clean it, and retry the install.

If the CD has deep scratches, your only option is to try and get a replacement. Does the manufacturer have a product support line?

I missed that "cd" in there. Guess because its green. Thought the poster was working with floppies only.

Your post:
"comes up with "bad command or file name"

I believe the error was in the syntax of the command?

Given < scanreg/ restore >

try < scanreg /restore > (no brackets)
notice the space !!

Although if this will fix a partial overwrite, I don't know?
I agree, contact the mfr for replacement media.

I had similar problems with a restore pack for windows ME. I finally got it to work by going into the bios and setting the 'boot sector virus protection' to disabled.
turn on pc
hold down delete key
(should go to BIOS screen -usually blue)
press enter on 'basic cmos setting' (or similar wording)tab.
this is to set date time etc
press down on arrow key until the boot sector virus protection tab is highlighted
change this to disabled(pageup/down keys)
press 'escape' key to main screen
use arrow keys to get to 'save settings and exit' tab
press 'enter'
press 'y' to confirm
insert restore floppy and continue

you can always re-enter the bios after restore to enable the boot sector virus protection.

good luck :-)

Also, as recommended by Rimfire back there, cleaning the disk is good advice especially as it got as far as 29% complete.

Mine was also a pc built /sold by TINY.

I had the same Error #1802 "Image file is invalid or
corrupt" during recovery CD intallataions on my IBM
ThinkPad for Windows XP. Called tech support. This has
nothing to do with dirty CDs. In case of ThinkPads, it is a
known issue with DVD-CDRW drive, and they are going to
replace my DVD-CDRW drive.
