Hey guys. I'm gonna be reformatting a computer for one of my relatives and it's a pretty new compaq, and it has a System restore CD. Do those things work the same as a normal Win98 cd? You just pop it in after creating partitions and after formatting is complete and set the BIOS to boot from CD and start the setup or is it more than that? I hear people say, "ohh a compaq, I'd never work on one of those." Anyone help me out here? Thanks for everything.

You boot of the CD and it will copy a disk image to your hardrive with all the OS and programs preinstalled.

Just boot with the restore disc and it will erase & format your hard drive and return the system to exactly as it was when purchased. You will, however, lose everything that's been added since new.

The system restore cd restores from the d: partition containing the factory image in a compressed format...if you are having issues with the restore you can call compaq and order a quick restore cd that is more effective.

the BIOS will run internal drivers to run the boot part of the CD, that part will load DOS drivers for the CDROM drive then procede with setup.
