Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a HP Pavilion4563Z, Intel Celeron 433MHZ processor with 64MB SDRAM running WIN98SE.
Today I put in 128 more memory. when I restarted my PC it said a file from my anti-virus was missing. It wouldn't complete loading in safe mode for me to uninstall the AV program. I tried safe mode with promts, and it still won't finish booting up.
Me being the novice that I am an not really having anything of importance saved on my PC thought I could just do a system recovery and it would reconfigure my PC to factory condition. I have done it before when I got a virus shortly after getting my PC.
This time though after doing the system recovery I get the message: While initializing device CONFIGMG , your system needs to be restarted. the only way to shut it down is to hit the off button. When I did that and rebooted I get the message that you system was shut down properly and it scans disk then it says there is a fatal exeption 06 has occurred at 0167:BFF8F6DB press any key to continue and when I do nothing happens. when I shut down again it goes into safe mode again with the same messages. I've tried a partial recovery and then tried a full recovery. I get the same messages.
I don't have a WIN98CD all I have is the system recovery CDROM that came with the system. How do I get it running again?
Do I have to F-disk and if I do I don't know what to enter when it asks 1)create DOS partition or logical DOS drive. 2) Set Active partition. 3) Delete partition or logical DOS drive or 4) Display partition information. Which one? and if I do the f-disk will I then be able to use my system recovery disk? I do have a WIN95b CD-ROM that I used on my laptop. Could I use that instead of the system recovery disk.
I really don't care if I'm using WIN98 or (% I just want my PC to boot up. I'm on my roomates PC now.
Could anyone help and walk me through it?
Thanks,
Cheryl
