I hope someone here can help me with this problem. I tried out Iolo's System Mechanic (free trial download). After a couple days I decided I did not like it so I ununstalled it. Trouble is, now every time I boot up my computer tells me that System Mechanic is compressing the system reg files. How can I stop it from doing this and remove it? I tried looking in all the normal places like msinfo, msconfig, and even the autoexec.bat file but nothing connected to System Mechanic was found there.
Any help to get rid of this would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Renee

Try to reinstall it then remove it in safemode with no application's running in the background(some program's can't shut themselves down and none that I can think of can be deleted while running).
Installing it will allow all the now orphaned files to be seen again
uninstalling in safemode (or with all running processes shutdown) will allow window's and the uninstall program to remove the file's in question

Hi Renee,
If the First response did not work, do you want to go through the Registry, very dodgee.
Complete the following procedure to set up a fail safe.
Start/Run - type 'regedit' with out inverted commas, click OK. Registry Editor appears. On menue bar click on Registry, select from drop down menue Export Registry File. A dialog box appears which is similar to that when you use Save As. Top dialog box Save in click right hand arrow and select Desktop. In File Name dialog box type something like: RegistryFile 300104, which is the file name you are giving it and the date it is being exported to desktop. Click on Save. Minimise all windows so you get to your desktop. On your desktop you will see the Registry file Icon. If anything goes wrong a double click, on this Icon, will restore you to where you started from.
You are now going to delete entries from your Registry. You must be completely happy in you own mind what you are deleting is the intended target, ie something to do with System Mechanic. Are you ready? then lets go.
Please get back to your Registry Editor. On the menue bar click on Edit and select Find from the drop down menue. In the Find dialog box, Find What: type System Mechanic exactly as you see the words when you boot up, and then click on Find next. Your machine will indicate to you that it's searching. When it finds something, the Registry Editor will open into one wind with two panes, Left hand pane shows an expanded tree whilst the right hand pane will show values and strings. Whatever it has found will be highlighted. If it is in the right hand pane check the left hand pane to see what file it has opened and that it is the intended target. If you are 100% certain that you have got the intended target press delete, it will ask you to confirm delete, double check and if okay confiirm delete. If you are not happy about the selected item leave it alone and press PF3 to continue the search. So you must work your way through the registry by deleting and pressing PF3 to resume the search.Once you have completed, the Registry will indicate that the search is complete, (On my first attempt I just pressed PF3 to see what it brought up and see how it all came together, once I did the dummy run, I went for real and surprised myself that it actually worked). reboot and keep your fingers crossed and Ha Prestoe it worked
regards Trevor
