Hello,

What's the best way to find out about hardware in a system without installing 3 party software?
Anything built into windows that can give me
motherboard model, cpu speed, etc...

Thanks!

What is wrong with 3rd party software? Most of it is superior to the feeble offerings of MS. Try a freeware program called AIDA32.

Josh, I'm assuming you're using Windows 98. Go to Start/Run and type in "hwinfo /u" (without the quotes)and it will show you all the hardware on your system. Note the space between the o and the /

One thing about BELARC is that it will report what WINDOWS finds, if it does not know what it finds, I.E. video card, it will reports as standard vga card.
I was told that the new version of AIDA can tell what it finds not what the windows finds. I myself use PCI probe untility software that runs in dos.
