I have an AMD K6-500 with 120mb of RAM. When I play games that boot the machine to DOS (Tomb Raider, etc.), they work fine, but when I exit to Windows, I either get a black or a blue screen.
Pressing control+ALT+DEL takes it to the "The system is waiting for window to close" (sorry - this is paraphrasing - but it's something like that). If I press a key, it goes back to black or green. I end up having to restart my computer.
This seems to happen after the machine has been on a while, or if I'm use other applications first. That makes me think it could be a system conflict.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Kai

Reboot the computer.
Press and hold F8 until a menu is displayed on the screen.
Then choose the choice that says to "Dos Prompt", but not "Save Mode Dos Prompt".
Does it work there?
Reboot the computer. Run Windows like normal.
Then go to the Start Menu. In the run box type "command.com". This will put you in a Dos box window. Type "edit c:\windows\dosstart.bat". See what's in that file? If it's not empty then add a "rem" and a space between that and the other text to every line. Then hold "alt" press "f" then "s" to save. Then hold "alt" press "f" and then "x" to exit. Then close the window and try to Exit to Dos again. Repeat this procedure and remove a rem statment until you find what is creating the lockup.
