Hi,
I have a system that I had bought from one of those computer outfits in Cleveland. It has a PCchips motherboard and an AMD 1.5 processor. The system just completely freezes at least once a day. It is as if I had disconnected the the keyboard and mouse. I added another stick of memory yesterday (it was 256...now 512) to see if that would improve things. I did not take out the original stick. Please help with any suggestions that you have.
Thanks
Linda

Installing another stick of RAM is NOT gonna stop it from freezing up. If you just bought the PC, why are you messing with it? Contact the outfit you bought it from. They weren't Russian by any chance, were they? lol

Adding memory will not stop freezes. Try it with just the new stick.
Also, you might want to run the following memory test overnight. Any failures at all are unacceptable.

Yes they were Russian and dealing with them about anything is almost impossible. This system is over a year old. My son had it at college...he bellyached about it but I thought that it could be something he was doing. I will run the memory test overnite with the two sticks in. If it is not bad....do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks
Linda

On the offchance that it might be a software issue (freezes can be due to all manner of things) you could try rebuilding your registry - harmless.

"Shut down and Restart in MS-DOS" and type scanreg /fix (hit Return and wait for it to finish). Type exit (hit Return) to restart Windows. It has been known, at times, to cure general issues.

hanging systems indicated not properly installed hardwaredevices. Look under this computer/system and check there are unconfigured devices. Otherwise see if you are using up to date device drivers. Win98 is the beste system there is but you need to configer it right by your self
