System CommanderHas anyone installed System Commander by V-Comm?
Got yet another computer coming with a host of non-compatible software installed, and want to start fresh, partition and re-do the hard drive. I did it a few years ago on the drive for a laptop, and seems to me there was a routine to it. The one in their booklet was wrong, and made certain options dead. I tried installing it maybe five times, and only thing I can remember was that Win 98 had to be the very first OS installed, or others got affected or neglected. After each of the operating systems was installed, the software to run with each section then began.
Any other hints?
Wm.

Not sure what you're asking exactly - I've used version 7 successfully on a number systems with 9x/ME - higher versions generated errors, at least under Win98
I've only used it to setup machines with pre existing Operating Systems - there is an option to install an OS from SC, which may (or may not) be more successful
When setting up multiboot for OSes that 'must' be installed on C: (9x/ME), you usually need to hide one drive from the other OS unless you're willing to go the FAT16/FAT32 route.
Pretty big PDF manual - there's a lot of information there
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

What I have is version Four. Came out prior to any ME version. Presume there to be no problems in installing the software onto yet another computer here.
Works OK, but was troublesome in loading up back when. For I had found that if I loaded up DOS 6.2 first, nothing would work. If I loaded up Win 98 first, then it was simple to load up and use remainders.

Version 4 (?) ("ME version"??) I'd thought v7 was pretty old
With 622/Win98 (although one wonders "why?") you can take advantage of the fact that FAT32 drives or partitions are invisible to FAT16.
Alternatively, on a FAT16 partition, you should be able to install 98 over 622 and take advantage of the built-in feature: boot to a "Previous version of MS-DOS" without the need for any other boot manager

The whole point of System Commander is that it allows trouble free installation of multiple OS's which would otherwise cause each other problems.
At boot, System Commander yanks control from the Windows Master Boot Record, and gives you your choice of operating systems.
I use Acronis, but I assume that System Commander, like the aforementioned product, can be put on a bootable c.d. and then resize partitions.
The reason that Windows 98 has to be installed first on a normal Windows PC, is that the installation routine overwrites Windows XP system files.
Windows XP on the other hand can "sidestep" an existing Windows 98 installation, although it's highly recommended you install it on a different partition.
