Comment:

I've obviously bungled the removal of a Symantec Programme. Now when I bootup I get a message telling me that Windows cannot find a device file needed to run Windows or a Windows application and that Windows Registry or System.Ini File refers to this device file but that the device no longer exists. C:Progra 1\Symantec\Symevnt.386. Windows still loads when I press any key but how can I get rid of this message? I have already uninstalled all references to Symantec using Find during my uninstall and do not have the original Application to reinstall so I am unable to replace the file.

Go into the registry editor (Start -> Run -> type in regedit (no quotes) and click on Ok). In the registry editor press the F3 key and in the search box type in Symevnt.386 and press enter. When a reference to the file is found delete it. Pressing F3 again will find the next reference to the file, delete it each time. Do this until no more references to the file can be found and then close regedit. **Warning** doing anything other than this can and will mess up Windows or any other programs installed on your computer. Use the sysedit program to check the system.ini file for references to the file and if you find them delete them. Close sysedit and reboot.

Post #2 is correct. It wasn't your fault! Symantec always does things like that.
