I would really appreciate some assistance in this matter. My computer will not run in standard WINDOWS mode like its supposed to,instead,it is running in MS-DOS Compatibility mode which is cripplingly slow.
For some reason all of the drivers that should load into the system upon start-up are not getting loaded. Here is the Exact explaination I get when `click` on an item with a hypon marked next to it:Windows was unable to identify a real-mode driver or memory-resident program loaded in your Config.sys or Autoexec.bat file. Becuase Windows could not identify the driver or program, it has switched to MS-DOS Compatibility mode to ensure the program will run. However,slows down overall performance. To improve performance,remove the program or driver cuasing the problem,or contact its manufacture for an update version.
I`m not a computer expert so within Config.sys/Autoexec.bat i have no idea how to tell which driver is the problem or if i`m missing a program string or what.Could someone PLEASE HELP ME..!!!

buddy, thats simple :P
First off, what is your version of windows?
If you have windows 98 or later, you do not need autoexec.bat / config.sys loaded to arm windows..... that is unless you do something in dos or require some driver loaded for the operation of certain program/components.
If you have win98, there is a nice utility called msconfig
go in start run, type in msconfig hit enter
brings you up the system configuration utility, under general select selective startup, and uncheck config.sys, then click okay and reboot, if it still acts the same, recheck config.sys and uncheck autoexec.bat, if it goes okay then we know where it is located in.
Then you can safely take a look into your autoexec.bat/config.sys in the tabs under msconfig, look for lines that are similar to
device=c:\windows\blah.exe
or loadhigh=
or devicehigh=
or LH=stuff like that.
If you dont have 98, I'm not sure if 95 comes with sysedit, but you can just use notepad and tell it to open all files, then look for autoexec.bat or config.sys, manually mark out all device= or lines mentioned above by putting REM like this
REM device=C:\windows\mscdex.exe
Do it one by one and remove the last one if the problem doesnt go away, until you find the one causing the problem.
I guess thats the only way to do it if you do not know what those device drivers loaded are for, but if it is possible post your config.sys and autoexec.bat content here, if you're still stuck see if anyone else comes up with a better idea, or email me.
good luck
