First, insert your earplugs and get ready for a blast from Winken, Blinken and Stinken about "It ain't DOS"

Did TrendMicro find anything?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

I'm not familiar with those posters.

Not all that clear on what's occurring on this machine - although this page from M$ describes a problem with the DOS AV scan - possibly related.

You might consider renaming autoexec.bat from DOS or using msconfig in Safe Mode to disable it.

I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I think it's a windows problem and not one of those typical 'stuck in dos' problems.

You might try restoring a previous registry. Startup the computer and tap the F8 key. Choose 'command prompt only' from the menu. At the prompt type scanreg/restore and enter. Choose a registry to restore with a date that precedes the problem. When it's done, reboot and see what happens.

Hi

Suggest you first check your system memory with Memtest86

May not help, but it rules out bad memory, which can cause all sorts of trouble.
