When I switch my brand new PC on, as the system is performing it's routine checks prior to loading Windows 98, it reports that the "Main Processor = Pentium III 450mhz". However when I go into Control Panel > System Properties, it tells me that I have a "Pentium(r) II" ???? Anyone know what's up or what this could mean?

I'm using a PIII 600 and I encounter the same situation as yours. May be Win98 cannot recognise the PIII CPU ?

That is exactly the "problem". The same thing happens when you've got the initial version of Win 95 running on a Pentium machine - it will recognize it as a 486.
