Help! My computer is doing strange unrelated things! Sometimes the CD Rom opens and shuts by itself. (I'm not nuts, my daughter has seen it, too.) Sometimes the computer makes a buzzing noise. It freezes up constantly. Usually the printer works, but once in awhile it doesn't. These are just some of the things it does. I took it in where I bought it, and they tuned it up to see if it would help. It did at first. Now it's bad again. They said it is possible it could be the motherboard. I am wondering what anyone thinks, and whether I would be better off buying a new computer. Mine is almost 4 yrs. old. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

first you check for Virus use any good Antivirus.if u did that better to delete and reinstall the windows (good to format again)
in the case of cd rom i think there is proble with logic card bcoz i had same problem
Melwin

Melwin, you said you needed a logic card. What kind of problems were you having? And is it expensive?
Thanks.

Hi Bonnie
Of course, it's always a good idea to check for viruses - and make sure that your AntiVirus files are kept up to date.
I have heard of 'joke' programs that will randomly open & close the CD drive - possibly someone has downloaded or installed such.
Try clicking on the start button than in 'run' entermsconfig
possibly you can determine the culprit from there, and disable or delete.
Also CTRL-ALT-DEL can show what applications are running.
One software tool that's helped to keep my systems running is MicroSoft's TweakUI - should either have it on your CD or be able to d/l it - the 'rebuild system files' feature is very useful.
Formatting and reinstalling is a last resort - and can lead to problems if you're not properly prepared.
If the motherboard is bad, well really, there is not much that can be done other than replacing it or upgrading to a newer machine.
