Strange keyboard input problems.

Whenever I press the normal keyboard Enter key, it outputs a ".+" and (if keyboard shortcuts are activated) it also opens up Outlook express. The enter key is not providing its normal function otherwise. The keypad enter key opens up HP Help (which not surprisingly, was no help) as well as toggles the Caps Lock. Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be done to remedy this? Operating without a functioning enter key is horribly frustrating. Thanks in advance.
