Subject: Stopping MS exchange from opening
OS: win95(b)
CPU/Ram: 25mhz 12 mb
Model/Manufacturer: Compaq Aero
Comment:

Greetings, I recently hot swaped a 2gb HD from a laptop and installed it in a Compaq Aero.

The drive was already formatted with Win95, but the owner had MS exchange opening as soon as the GUI screen was opened.

The Contura is strictly a word processor now, and I cannot seem to keep MS exchange from opening at first, I've tried Run-sysedit-(I've forgotten the last run command) and no luck.

What do I need to do to keep this program from running at boot up?

I didn't realize Microsoft Exchange server ran on Windows 95. Regardless, have you looked in the Startup folder? Or, in the Registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run?

It might show in the 'startup' tab if you run MSCONFIG. Otherwise, if you don't need it you can probably uninstall it through add/remove programs.

Unfortunately it isn't listed in "add remove" programs, and MSCONFIG only brings up a red box with and X and "no such program".

Did you check the Startup folder and/or the Registry Key I posted?

Startup didn't work, I had no intention of using this old laptop for internet stuff so I just went into "C" and deleted MS exchange.

reboot, no more MS exchange, so thanks for cuing me to going into startup and looking for that folder Jennifer, Exchange was right there.

I'll run scanreg or regfix later on.

Oh yeah, no msconfig in 95, although you can install the 98 msconfig files and it'll work just fine.
