Enable com2.....install modem/drivers/voilaŽ
(DIDN'T WORK)

What kind of computer do you have? Is it an old computer? Real old computers don't work with Win modems, and sometimes not at all. We need more info to help you out. Did you just do a reinstall of your operating system? If you did, did you reinstall the modem drivers?

sony pcv-100\120
vaio
just ran complete system set up trying to get it to work, it didn't work before/and it didn't change anything in the info posted before. don't the cd set up disk install the drivers?

Modems are real pain.
First thing you can do is try to find the brand and model of the modem and then download the driver from their website.
I have 3com's 56k win modem and none of the Windows OS finds it.
I run setup program that comes with the drivers and it had worked all the time.
I don't know if this will help you.Good Luck

Try this one, go to Device manager and remove your com ports. Shut down your computer and pull the modem out. Then restart and windows will reinstall the ports. Then shut down windows again and put your modem back in then restart and it should reinstall the modem again. (make sure you have the drivers for it incase windows doesn't find them)

I agree with the above post but one thing I have tried with a problem modem was to not only take it out reboot then replace it. But to put it in a different slot I found this was the only way it was found by windows I still had to have the drivers myself. You should get the manufacturer off of the modem to get the proper drivers. My modem did not have the makers name on it but one of the chips on it had a name on it and luckily they only made the chips for that modem Modems are a real pain but keep at it. From your description you do not have the drivers installed.

Is the modem any good? If the modem isn't listed in device manager then your drivers are not install or not installed right. Your looking for the .INF file for what ever OS you are using. Sometimes you have to show Windows the file in order for it to install right. Pull the modem and try and fine the brand name then you could try and see if there are better drivers out there for it.
Or buy a new one.
Other problems might be that something is trying to use that COM port
Problems with tcp/ip in your networking
